چکیده

In a previous publication (6) at.tention was called to the fact that in aln experiment with tomato plants, those supplied with complete nutrient solution guttated while those in solutions lacking both nitrate and ammonium nitrogen did not guttate. At that time it was thought that the low pH of the solutions might have been responsible for the lack of guttation. Two additional observations made during the course of later work have suggested that pH alone may not have been responsible. On May 8, 1942, all plants in complete nutrient solutions that had been changed three days previously were guttating markedly while others in solutions that had not been changed were not guttating. In neither instance was the pH low. On May 19, 1942, plants that had been allowed to arow in complete solutions for 18 days but were supplied with additional calcium during the interval were t.reated as follows by adding concentrated solutions to the depleted solutins:

Effect of Calcium Chloride on Growth and Yield of Tomato under Sodium Chloride Stress

The effects of salinity and supplied calcium chloride on growth and leaf ions concentration of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) were investigated in Gorgan, Iran. A factorial experiment was conducted based on RCBD with four NaCl levels (0, 50, 100, and 150 mM) and four CaCl2 levels (0, 100, 200 and 300 mg L-1). Data of growth, yield and leaf’s Ca, K, and Na content were subjected to analyze ...

Ingress of Salmonella enterica Typhimurium into Tomato Leaves through Hydathodes

Internal contamination of Salmonella in plants is attracting increasing attention for food safety reasons. In this study, three different tomato cultivars "Florida Lanai", "Crown Jewel", "Ailsa Craig" and the transgenic line Sp5 of "Ailsa Craig" were inoculated with 1 µl GFP-labeled Salmonella Typhimurium through guttation droplets at concentrations of 10(9) or 10(7) CFU/ml. Survival of Salmone...

Molecular and biochemical protective roles of sodium nitroprusside in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) under salt stress

Salinity stresses act as inhibitor factors of plant growth. They can change the physiological characteristics and limit the production of crops. Sodium nitroprusside (SNP) is a stable free radical which use as a signalling molecule in plants and participates in various plant’s physiological, biochemical and molecular processes and also in plant’s responses to environmental stresses. We investig...

Effects of foliar spraying kinetin on growth parameters and photosynthesis of tomato under different levels of drought stress. Maryam Niakan* and Alireza Ahmadi

The effects of 2 concentrations of kinetin, i.e., 2 and 4 mM together with 2 levels of drought stress, i.e., moderate (35% soil saturation capacity) and severe (20% soil saturation capacity) were investigated on the growth parameters of tomato including fresh and dry leaf weight, leaf number, leaf surface area, fruit number, fruit weight, and enzymatic antioxidants. To this end, first tomato pl...
